3D-Animations and Virtual Reality have quickly become increasingly important in many fields of our work lifestyle as well as in research. Many of the devices needed to project and showcase VR/3D-models are, however, not very practical to use due to the bulkiness of the equipment, long loading times or their “static” nature.
The Hologram Table showcased by the Meixner 3D-Development Team offers an easily accessible solution for the work with 3D data. The projected miniature 3D models allow for an interactive work, enabling the user to view the model from its widest extents, to zoom in to maximum resolution and to select an object and move it around the models if wanted. This real-time adaption of the data, together with short processing times and the ability to use it with the whole project team, offers it an ideal tool to enable better planning of solutions and an efficient workflow.
The 3D Algorithm “Unlimited Detail” is currently the most advanced, and thanks to a new streaming technology even large amount of data will be loaded within seconds from a variety of sources. The hologram table can process any 3D dataset, ranging from point cloud data to polygon models, vector drawings (CAD and BIM), laserscans and orthophotos.
In this way, the hologram table offers great opportunities for archaeology and highly responsible work in the cultural heritage field. For the first time models of archaeological sites can be re-examined and discussed after the excavation itself finished, conservation measures can be planned more precisely without the need to be physically on-site. Projections of sites and detection of findings can be displayed manifold for educational or research purposes at museum exhibits and universities. Holographic representation of objects allow more people to simultaneously undertake researches it it, while greatly diminishing the risk of damage of findings through intensive handling or physical transport.
